The tally is in and the blue ribbon for the best loved book at 2011 county fair goes to J.K. Rowling for the Harry Potter series. The red goes to Suzanne Collins for The Hunger Games trilogy and Rick Riordan claims the white with his Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.
For most popular title author of a single book, Harper Lee's classic To Kill a Mockingbird is a still a winner. Kathryn Stockett, author of the book of the same title as the new hit movie, The Help, tied for popularity, followed in the votes at the fair by the Bible. Writers like Dr. Seuss, and J.R.R. Tolkien of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy still raked in the votes, but it is clear that the Twilight series lost the cachet it had a few years ago.
More than 1213 unique votes were cast during the four days of the county fair. Eight hundred twenty-eight titles were identified. Multiple votes were cast for 146 titles, while some just voted for authors like Jane Austin or Edward Abbey. The complete list of titles and authors may be found at the library web site: www.sjlib.org.
Library outreach at the county fair enables the community to interact with library staff in a relaxed setting, and the library booth provides information about library programs and services. |
